I am taking a Communication Skills module for my 2nd semester. I have to do an ice breaker speech. Here is the script, thought it would be fun to share it publicly.

Hi everyone! Did you know there are two Sahithyans in this class? And yes, we both wear specs—so good luck telling us apart! Let me share a bit about the cool one, me.

My hometown is Jaffna. I am from a family of 4, my parents, my younger brother and I. Both my father and my mother are government servants. My brother recently finished his A/L exams, so he’s currently enjoying that sweet post-exam freedom.

Me? I am a software engineer and a tech enthusiast. It all started when I was 12. I found a book on software development in our library. The sparked my love for programming and I haven’t stopped ever since. I have worked on countless little projects.

I built XCalc, a calculator app that not only solves equations but also checks if a number is prime, factorizes it, and even simplifies ratios. Kalvi.lk, a big repository of Sri Lanka’s school exam papers which hit 2 million downloads recently; and S1, our 1st semester notes website. I also maintain a blog at sahithyan.dev where I write about the stuff I like, the stuff I know, and my side projects.

When I’m not busy with computers, I love spending time chatting with my friends—something we all enjoy. I’m also a big fan of spicy food, which always adds a kick to my day.

In my downtime, I watch movies and TV series, with sitcoms being my go-to genre. The Big Bang Theory and Friends are my absolute favorites—I can rewatch them endlessly. Music is another essential thing for me; I listen to all kinds of music to keep myself focused.

When my roommates and I have some free time together, we love playing Blood Strike. It’s a great way for us to unwind and have fun as a group.

Oh, and about sports—I played badminton with friends at home. I never made it to the school team though. Turns out, my talent was better suited for cheering from the sidelines!

Well, that pretty much covers all the things I enjoy!

I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of you better, learning together, and maybe even collaborating on some cool projects. Speaking of projects, I’m currently working on S2, the successor to S1. If you’re interested in collaborating or passionate about technology, lets’ connect. I would love to get in touch.
